Blood Groups:
When the first human beings began to move around and spread over new continents, they were forced to adapt their diet to changing conditions and environments. These changes initiated adaptations in the digestive tract and immune system in order for the human race to survive and to be able to thrive in new habitats. These changes are reflected in the development of the blood types.
Our blood type is one of several medically recognized variations which differentiate one human being from another, much like hair and eye colour.
New research indicates that your blood type is an important key to your body's entire immune system. The immune system works to identify "self" and destroy "non-self'. One of the most powerful antigens in our body is the one that identifies your blood type.
The Diet Connection:
When you eat, a chemical reaction occurs between your blood and the food you have eaten. Lectins, are abundant and diverse proteins in food. They have agglutinating properties that affect your blood. If you consume a food containing protein lectins that are incompatible with your food type antigen, the lectins target an organ or body system.
The action of lectins in the digestive tract can create inflammation of the sensitive mucus membranes of the intestines. This agglutinative action may mimic food allergies.
For example, gluten, the most common lectin found in many grains such as wheat, binds to the small intestinal lining, causing inflammation and painful irritation in some blood types - especially Type O.
Many people with arthritis feel that avoiding vegetables of the "nightshade" family, such as tomatoes, aubergines and white potatoes, seems to help their arthritis. That is not surprising, since most nightshades are very high in lectins.
Therefore it is possible to construct a list of foods that each blood type (A, B, AB and 0) should reduce or avoid.
